Permanent world peace must become a deliberate, urgent, and measurable objective of humanity.

War is not an unavoidable part of human nature. It is a human institution, sustained by fear, distrust, injustice, prejudice, uncontrolled nationalism, competition for power and resources, and inadequate systems of collective security and international law. What some individuals have constructed for personal gain, the people can transform into mutual benefit.

The peoples and nations of the world are interdependent. Our security, prosperity, health, environment, and future cannot be protected by one nation acting alone. WWII proved that. Permanent peace requires cooperation, justice, consultation, mutual respect, human rights, dispute resolution and diplomacy, arms reduction, education and world citizenship, and institutions capable of preventing war before it begins.

We call upon governments, the United Nations, regional bodies, religious communities, educational institutions, businesses, foundations, civic organizations, artists, writers, young people, and all people of goodwill to make permanent peace a shared aim and to help develop a practical Roadmap to Permanent Peace by 2030.

The year 2030 is both a goal and a summons. We do not claim that every conflict will disappear by that date. We insist that the nations of the world sign a binding pact to not wage war against each other under any circumstance. That treaty will clarify that any nation that invades or harms another nation shall be immediately stopped by all nations acting together.
