THE AMERICAN PETITION FOR PEACE AND REPRESENTATIVE GOVERNMENT

delivered July 4, 2027

To the President of the United States, Congress, States, and our fellow citizens:

We, the undersigned, petition our government to use the power, influence, and example of the United States to advance a more peaceful, just, democratic, and representative world.

We ask the President and Congress to commit the United States to these actions:

  1. By July 4, 2027:We, the undersigned and supporters, call for an international World Peace Conference to establish practical agreements for collective security, peaceful settlement of disputes, arms reduction, and prevention of aggression.
  2. By January 1, 2028:Present to the American people a national plan for substantial, verifiable reductions in nuclear weapons and excessive armaments, undertaken in cooperation with other nations and without sacrificing legitimate national security.
  3. By January 1, 2029:Work with other nations toward a binding system of collective security under international law, so that aggression against one nation is opposed collectively by the community of nations.
  4. By January 1, 2030:Seek international agreements establishing permanent institutions and enforceable procedures capable of preventing war, settling international disputes, protecting human rights, and maintaining peace.
  5. At home, beginning now:Strengthen American representative government so that political power more faithfully reflects the will of the people. We call for fair voting access, impartially drawn electoral districts, transparent elections, protection against corruption and excessive influence of money, equal application of the law, responsible government, and meaningful representation for every citizen.

OUR DECLARATION

Peace cannot remain merely a hope. Government and nations exist to serve humans. Security cannot be achieved by weapons, aggression, fear, rivalry, or domination.

We therefore ask our government to lead—not toward American domination of the world, but toward cooperation among nations, government under law, justice among peoples, and lasting world peace.

We call upon the United States to help make the achievement of world peace a deliberate international objective by the year 2030.
